    Ironically, he initially was asked by the FBI to help investigate the anthrax attacks.
    He stood to benefit financially from the anthrax attacks as co-inventor of a genetically-engineered vaccine.
    Social worker Jean Duley requested a restraining order, saying he had stalked her and threatened her life.
    His brother Tom said of the allegations, 'It makes sense.... He considered himself like a god.'
    He volunteered for the Red Cross.
    He and two colleagues received the Decoration for Exceptional Civilian Service, the Defense Department's highest award for civilian employees, for solving technical problems in the manufacture of the anthrax vaccine.
    Fellow scientist W. Russell Byrne said, 'There are people you just know are ticking bombs. He was not one of them.'
