Aviator
    (November 19, 1897-July 14, 1918)
Born in Washington, District of Columbia
Youngest son of President Theodore Roosevelt
Pilot in the 95th Reconnaissance Squadron
Killed in combat over Chamery, France
His antics in the White House included shooting spitballs at presidential portraits, throwing snowballs off the roof onto unsuspecting Secret Service agents, and riding on top of the elevator.
His mother Edith called him 'a fine bad boy.'
He had a reputation as a reckless pilot, with Eddie Rickenbacker writing, 'We all knew he would either achieve some great spectacular success or be killed in the attempt.'
The airport named after him on Long Island was replaced by a shopping mall.
He showed promise as a writer at Harvard before leaving to join the Army Air Service.
He was originally assigned to train other pilots and was considered an excellent instructor.
As the last of the Roosevelt sons to see combat, his brothers teased him as a 'slacker,' until their father put a stop to it.
Rickenbacker wrote, 'Quentin Roosevelt was one of the most popular fellows in the group. We loved him purely for his own natural self.'
Although the former President put on a brave front in public over Quentin's death, privately he wrote, 'To feel that one has inspired a boy to conduct that has resulted in his death, has a pretty serious side for a father.'
It was said that Theodore Roosevelt never recovered from Quentin's death.
