Athlete
    (February 15, 1988- )
    Born in Minto, Australia
    Jarryd Lee Hayne
Rugby star; mainly as Fullback and Wing/Center
Played for the Parramatta Eels of the NRL (2006- )
Running Back for the San Francisco 49ers, (2015-2016)
Fullback for the Gold Coast Titans of the NRL (2016- )
Member of the Fiji National Rugby Sevens team in Rugby Union (2016- )
Son of professional Rugby League player Manoa Thompson
He dropped out of High School to pursue a career with the Rugby League.
He muffed his first attempt at a punt reception for his Monday Night Football debut.
His bombastic post-try celebrations have been dubbed the 'Hayne Plane.'
He teared up during the presser announcing his shift to American football.
His career move also resulted in sports announcers regularly making crude attempts to effect an 'Aussie accent' whenever he made a tackle or catch.
His success in the NRL didn't necessarily translate into success with the NFL, and he was relegated to the practice squad after only six games.
Although his reported reason for leaving the 49ers was that he hoped of representing Fiji in the 2016 Rio Olympics (although he made the initial 23-member training squad, he was not selected for the final Olympic squad - which went on to win the Gold in Brazil).
His pro-sport career was endangered over a Snapchat video depicting him and ex-Titan player Chris Bloomfield exchanging cash with an alleged Hells Angels pusher; although he was later cleared by an NRL conduct probe (Sept. 2016).
He is of Fijian descent on his father's side.
He cites Steven Gerrard as his sporting hero.
He was credited with upgrading the Parramatta Eels' standing within the National Rugby League.
He was nearly shot during a 2008 nightclub incident.
He represented Fiji in the 2008 Rugby League World Cup, which he credited as a transformative experience.
He was awarded the Dally M Medal as the NRL's player of the year on two occasions (2009; 2014).
He won the Rugby League International Federation's International Player of the Year award (2009).
He was voted by the public to play fullback for the NRL All Stars team at the inaugural match in both 2010 and 2013 (the latter which in Brisbane he scored the team's single Try).
It was seen as a longshot for him to even make the 49ers' 53-player roster in the first place (but he had several strong early showings). He is also not the first Rugby player to struggle in the transition from the NRL to the NFL.
His return NRL game with the Titans sold out the entire stadium (which was equipped with a 'Hayne Cam' to monitor his every play).
