Why Rome, Italy might be annoying:

Since its history is deeply rooted in mythology, nobody really knows how it actually formed.
It at one time worshipped a huge amount of gods and deities, which were borrowed primarily from Greek culture.
Once the proud hub of civilization in Europe, its economy now relies on government activities and tourism.
The Colosseum, located within its walls, was the source of malicious entertainment involving gladiators and animals in legendary death fights, and would have managed to piss off both Joseph Lieberman and PETA.
During its hay day, it was overcrowded and had many fires, including the infamous Nero incident.
Its empire crucified Jesus and many other Christians, only to become the world capital of that religion years later.
It lost its status as the center of Christianity when the papacy formed the smallest country in the world, Vatican City, a state independent from Italy.
Pollution and traffic within it is threatening to destroy many of its historical sites.
Like most old European cities, it has a frustrating road system.
It was the home of many infamous despots.
Its ancient language, Latin, isn't used anymore.
It was sacked by Germanic tribes (410 AD).
It has seen its better days.

Why Rome, Italy might not be annoying:

It is a city as old as civilization itself.
It was the unquestioned world superpower for nearly a millennium.
Its influence on European civics, law, culture, history, ethics, architecture, warfare and language is beyond belief, and still remains evident in Europe to this day.
Famous citizens of it include Julius Caesar, Augustus Caesar, Cicero, Trajan and Constantine the Great, to name a few.
It was spared heavy bombing during World War II due to its cultural significance.
After World War II, it became a leading Italian city again as it overtook Milan and Naples.
To this day, it remains as one of the most beautiful cities in the world.
    Hey, when in Rome...
