Biblical Character
The Resume
Appears in the Gospel of John
Author of the (apocryphal) Gospel of Thomas, Infancy Gospel of Thomas and Acts of Thomas
Also known as ‘Judas Thomas Didymus,' ‘Jude Thomas Didymus' and ‘The Twin'
Why he might be annoying
He was skeptical.
The Bible claims that when Christ came back from the dead, Thomas didn't believe it.
Some scholars say he never believed that Jesus was God at all.
His books of stories about Jesus are not included in the Christian Bible.
His teachings were radically different from those of St. Paul and other early Christians.
Because his name means ‘twin,' there is confusion about whether he was the twin brother of one of the other disciples, or even a brother of Jesus.
The term ‘Doubting Thomas,' meaning an overly skeptical person, comes from his story.
Reportedly, he would contract as a carpenter and then give the money to the poor without doing any work.
Why he might not be annoying
When a man says he rose from the dead, it's so wrong to ask a few questions?
He was logical (to say the least).
He was a loyal disciple to Jesus.
He introduced Christianity to India, and may have brought it as far as China or even America.
Despite his skepticism, he is considered a saint in the Catholic tradition.
His ‘Infancy Gospel' tells a famous story about how Jesus turned toy birds into real ones as a child.
Some scholars argue that his ‘gospels' are more trustworthy than the ones in the Bible.
He may be one of the only writers about Christ who actually knew him.
