    He was anti-union as a Senator, but maintained his Screen Actor's Guild membership while in the Senate.
    He said: 'After two years in Washington, I often long for the realism and sincerity of Hollywood.'
    He was also credited as Ored Dalton.
    He had a child with his second wife at the age of 60.
    He had a relationship with country music star Lorrie Morgan.
    He served as Minority Counsel to the Senate during the Watergate Committee Hearings (1973-74).
    He received the most votes for Senator in Tennessee history (1996).
    He was the first serving U.S. Senator to simultaneously have an acting job on television.
    He graduated from Memphis State University, and earned a law degree from Vanderbilt University.
    He worked as a lawyer, salesman, truck driver and factory worker before becoming an actor.
