    (January 8, 1949- )
    Born in Chicago, Illinois
Chief of staff to President Bill Clinton (1998-2001)
President and CEO for the Center for American Progress (CAP), based in Washington, DC (2003-11)
Served as a policy advisor to President Barack Obama
Chairman of Hillary Clinton's 2016 presidential campaign
Gained attention after the theft of thousands of emails from his Gmail account by WikiLeaks, who subsequently published them (October, 2016)
He clashed repeatedly with Clinton campaign manager Robby Mook during the 2016 campaign.
He is a zealous advocate for government disclosure of UFO files, even penning the forward for a book on the subject.
He joked about being the 'Secretary of [expletive]' during his time in the Clinton White House, tasked with containing the various scandals that dogged the administration (including the Lewinsky affair).
Andrew Breitbart famously loathed him with a passion, with one of his last tweets before his death targeting him specifically ('How prog-guru John Podesta isn't household name as world class underage sex slave op cover-upperer defending unspeakable dregs escapes me').
He got into a heated confrontation with Project Veritas' James O'Keefe when confronted about improprieties within the Hillary Clinton campaign.
He became an unwitting catalyst in the waning month of the 2016 election after thousands of his personal emails were released by WikiLeaks.
Among the more bizarre allegations that sprang amid the leak controversy was that he was using cryptic language to run a prostitution ring out of a DC-based pizza parlor (#Pizzagate) and that he was engaging in Satanic rituals that involved the drinking of blood ('spirit cooking').
He appeared in the place of Hillary Clinton - who was expected to deliver a concession speech after it was determined that Donald Trump had all but certainly won the Presidential election - instead assuring a legion of disappointed supporters that they 'wanted to make sure every vote counted' (November 9, 2016).
He reemerged as a person of interest during the Trump-Russian collusion debate when it was revealed that he joined the board of a small energy company which was directly funded by the Kremlin (which invested $35 million).
He was criticized for taking 75,000 shares in a Russian company which he failed to disclose after becoming an Obama administration official.
He took part in a heated interview with Maria Bartiromo, which went viral, in which the two argued over whether the Democrats' Russian investigation posed a conflict of interest given his and the Democrats' own ties to Kremlin-affiliated businesses/organizations (June, 2017).
    He is an avid cook.
He is involved with Catholics in Alliance for the Common Good and Catholics United.
He was the son of an Italian-American factory worker and a Greek-American mother, who was a poll worker every Election Day.
He volunteered for Gene McCarthy's presidential bid, and later George McGovern's, while he was a student at Knox College.
He was a co-chairman of then-President-elect Barack Obama's transition team following his 2008 election victory.
He was a visiting Professor of Law at the Georgetown University Law Center.
He (ironically) wrote a critical report of then-First Lady Hillary Clinton's role in the White House, which reportedly hurt his popularity within the administration.
Many of the attacks on his character - particularly regarding Pizzagate - were based off of either gross exaggerations or outright fabrications (e.g. 'fake news').
