He was a one hit wonder.
He was a member of a street gang.
    He was heavily tattooed.
His band's full name is Otara Millionaires Club, a sarcastic reference to Otara, the poorest district of Auckland where he grew up.
When someone in San Francisco called him a sheep shagger he threw him through a plate glass window.
He spent about $1.5 million of royalties from 'How Bizarre' and declared bankruptcy in 2006.
He quit the gang to concentrate on music.
'How Bizarre' was a #1 hit in nine countries, spent 36 weeks on Billboard's Hot 100 Airplay chart and sold over 4 million copies.
It became the biggest single ever produced out of New Zealand.
His older brother Phil, a record producer who helped launch his career, died of a heart attack at age 41 (March 2005).
He said at the funeral, 'He picked me up when I was down. It took a punch in the head, but it was him that made me sort my life out.'
