Why he might be annoying:

He ran away from home at age 14 and for a time lived on the streets of New York.
Pacino tried to get him the part of Manny opposite him in the 1983 film 'Scarface,' but the role went to Steven Bauer.
He married in 1982 but his wife left him less than a year later because of his drug use.
While dating Lorraine Bracco's sister, he phoned his estranged wife and said he would kill himself if she didn't take him back (she refused).
He died of a drug overdose while starring as a heroin addict in the David Mamet written Broadway play 'American Buffalo' (with his friend Pacino).
His breakthrough performance as Patsy Goldberg in 'Once Upon a Time in America' came almost a year after his death.

He served with the U.S. Army in Vietnam.
He donated his time to the Salvation Army at Christmas time as a bell ringing Santa Claus, manning a donation kettle.
He won critical acclaim in both 'American Buffalo' and the other 1983 Broadway play he was in - Arthur Miller's 'A View From the Bridge.'
His career was set to take off when his addiction snuffed out his promising future.
Mickey Rourke dedicated his performance in the 1984 movie 'The Pope of Greenwich Village' to him.
