She sometimes walked a duck on a leash.
Heavy drinking eventually helped end her acting career.
She put on so much weight that she had to wear heavy corsets in her later roles.
‘A Woman of Paris' was supposed to make her a major star, but co-star Adolphe Menjou stole the picture from her.

Why she might not be annoying:

She is sometimes described as Charlie Chaplin's muse.
She was discovered by an agent when she was eating dinner in a San Francisco café.
Chaplin once bet he could hypnotize her, and she played along so he wouldn't be embarrassed.
Chaplin impregnated two teenaged actresses while he was romantically involved with her.
She remained close friends with Chaplin after she left his studio, and he kept her on his payroll until her death.
