The Resume

    (February 15, 1935- )
    Born in Brooklyn, New York
    Birth name was Susan Warhaftig
    Feminist activist and author
Wrote 'Against Our Will: Men, Women and Rape' (1975)
Founding member of Women Against Pornography (1979)

Why she might be annoying:

She got a scholarship to Cornell but dropped out.
She changed her name to Brownmiller during a brief stint as an actress. (She later said she had been 'terrible.')
She said that rape 'underlies all aspects of male-female relationships' and was used by 'all men [to] keep all women in a state of fear.'

Why she might not be annoying:

She joined the civil rights groups CORE and SNCC and registered black voters in Mississippi during Freedom Summer (1964).
When she was a newswriter for ABC's New York City affiliate, she was told there was no room for advancement since the station 'had a woman' as an on-air reporter (1968).
'Against Our Will' helped dispel the 'she was asking for it' attitude prevalent towards rape victims.
'Against Our Will' was named one of the 100 most important books of the 20th century by the New York Public Library.
