Born in Uzbekistan
Founded by Tohir Yo'ldosh and Juma Namangani.
Started out as Adolat (1991-1992).
Conducted bombings in Tashkent (February 1999), and abductions on four Japanese geologists and eight Kyrgyzstani soldiers (August 1999) and four American citizens (August 2001)
Attempted to bomb US embassy in Bishkek (October 2001)
Why they might be annoying
They are in cahoots with Al-Qaeda and its associates.
Their actions worsened Uzbekistan's already appalling human rights record.
They are actually based in Afghanistan and Tajikistan instead of Uzbekistan, making them hard to hunt down.
Most of its members, including its two founders, fought in the Soviet army as conscripts.
They have conducted terrorist attacks in an attempt to turn their country into an Islamic state.
They got involved with the Afghan opium trade and used the funds obtained by it to finance their recruitment.
They are obviously extremely anti-Western, especially on America.
Why they might not be annoying
They are fighting against the dictatorship in their country that has suppressed religious freedom.
They want to bring Uzbekistan back to the good old days prior to Russian occupation.
They admire the religious devotion of the Afghans.
