Baseball Player

The Resume

Why he might be annoying:

He was a promising prospect whose major league career didn’t meet expectations.
It didn’t help matters he played on the Mets at the same time some of the majors most notorious party boys were on the roster.
He started a bench-clearing brawl, after he charged the mound against his former teammate Roger McDowell, when the latter made snide remarks towards him (September 27, 1989).
He couldn’t handle criticism from teammates, and went as far as writing a letter that was read on a New York sports radio show.
He was injury prone during the later stages of his career.
He said he wasn’t happy with the way his career played out in an interview 20 years after he played his last major league game.

Why he might not be annoying:

He was a versatile player, excelling at both the infield and outfield positions.
He admitted his failures in New York stemmed from being unprepared to handle the scrutiny of playing in a large market.
He made two All-Star Game appearances in both seasons with the Cardinals.
He was the first Phillie player in nearly 35 years to hit for the cycle (August 25, 1995).
He became a hitting instructor following his retirement from baseball.
