    She changed her name when she started acting to avoid embarrassing her father, who was a minister.
    She sometimes wore white gloves and a surgical mask to avoid germs.
    After her husband, Stanley Krebs, died (1935), she would have 'conversations' with him, sometimes interrupting a scene she was filming.
    She was nominated for an Oscar for Best Supporting Actress for her first Ma Kettle performance, in 'The Egg and I.'
    The Ma and Pa Kettle films saved Universal Pictures from bankruptcy.
    She had a long-term affair with actress Spring Byington.
    She preferred riding the bus because she like interacting with regular people.
