Why he might be annoying:

    He was unable to get into college because he graduated high school with a 67 average (1946).
    He shot 'Lolita' in England for legal reasons.
    In the late '60s, Kubrick moved to England permanently.
    He wasted six months of pre-production with Marlon Brando for 'One Eyed Jacks,' Brando eventually decided to direct himself.
    Although multi Oscar nominated he won but one, for the special effects of '2001: A Space Odyssey.'
    'Barry Lyndon' costing $11,000,000 flopped at the box office.
    Kubrick put 'AI' (Artificial Intelligence) on hold to direct 'Eyes Wide Shut' with Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman (He died during the two years of making the film).
    He was a perfectionist/control freak causing films to exceed budget.
    He married the niece of the notorious Nazi director Veit Harlan (1957).

Why he might not be annoying:

    He played chess for money in Greenwich Village.
    Most of his movies are critically acclaimed.
    '2001' is a cinematic landmark.
    'Sparticus,' 'Dr. Stangelove,' '2001,' 'The Shining' and 'Full Metal Jacket' are major commercial successes.
    He joined with directors Martin Scorsese, Woody Allen, Francis Ford Coppola, Steven Spielberg, Robert Redford, Sydney Pollack, and George Lucas in forming the Film Foundation (promotes restoration and preservation of film - May 1990).
    The Director's Guild of America awarded him its highest honor, the D.W. Griffith Award (March 8, 1997).
