    Immigrated to the U.S. (1901)
    Although often thought to be a Scotsman, he was born in Australia.
    Despite what he told the Frankenstein Monster in 'Bride of Frankenstein,' smoking is not 'good.'
    Homosexual undertones are sometimes read into his 'Bride' scenes.
    His stage performance as Sherlock Holmes drew praise from Arthur Conan Doyle.
    His sequence in 'Bride of Frankenstein' is often hailed as the most touching part of the film.
    James Whale wanted him so much for the role of the blind man that he delayed shooting to accommodate him.
    He was famously parodied by Gene Hackman in 'Young Frankenstein.'
