Why they might be annoying
When the group was dropped by their record label, producer/songwriter Tony Hiller hired a batch of session singers to keep the already established name alive (1972).
After they had a hit with ‘Save Your Kisses For Me,’ which sounds like a love song but is revealed in the last verse to really be about the singer’s three-year-old daughter, they repeated the formula with ‘My Sweet Rosalie,’ which sounds like a love song but is revealed in the last verse to really be about the singer’s dog; it was far less successful.
Their hit ‘Angelo’ was criticized as a clone of ABBA’s ‘Fernando. (The fact that both bands had two-girl, two-guy line-ups probably didn’t help.)
Their song ‘United We Stand’ was used as the closing theme for The Brady Bunch Hour.
Why they might not be annoying
‘Save Your Kisses For Me’ was the top-selling single in the UK for 1976 and hit #1 in five other European countries.
They performed for Queen Elizabeth’s Silver Jubilee Gala (1977).
Appropriately enough, they teamed up on tours with fellow British Eurovision champs Bucks Fizz.
