Why he might be annoying:

His catch phrase was 'How 'bout dat?' and his favorite insult was to call opponents 'turkeyneck.'
To infuse his blue collar, beer drinking, tavern dwelling persona, he was nicknamed The Man That Made Milwaukee Famous (a takeoff of the old Schlitz beer tag line).
He oft stated in TV promos how 'all the dolls from five to 80 loved him.'
Teamed with Dick the Bruiser, if they felt they didn't punish their opponents enough, after the bell rung they'd start pummeling each other.
His daughters complained that they rarely were asked out on dates because potential suitors feared their father's wrath.
He joined the WWF well past his prime as a promoter of Midwest shows because the money was good.

Why he might not be annoying:

He enlisted in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Germany during World War II.
When he first started wrestling, he was paid poorly and supplemented his income with part-time work as a bricklayer and meat packer.
In 1964, a local garage band called The Novas recorded 'The Crusher' (complete with a gravelly voiced sound-alike), which made it to #88 on the Billboard chart and gained notoriety when it was played several times on The Late Show with David Letterman.
In 1985, he guest conducted the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra for a fundraising event.
Observers noted that when other celebs showed up at charity event for a set fee, he was the one that came with a signed check in his hand to donate.
He wrestled for an astonishing 39 years (1949-88).
He was married to the same woman for 55 years until her 2003 death, and stated she and his family meant the world to him.
He was crippled by hip and knee surgeries and in March 2005 had a non-cancerous tumor removed from his brain stem that months later cost him his life.
Shortly after his death, he was inducted into the Professional Wrestling Hall of Fame and Museum.
