Why he might be annoying:

    His nickname Pete comes from his middle name.
    He received two Honorary Doctorates.
    He enjoyed golfing and car racing.
    He died at 69 in a motorcycle accident.
    He was rather short and light for an astronaut, 5'6 and 145 pounds.

Why he might not be annoying:

    His first words on the Moon were somewhat humorous, saying 'Whoopee! Man, that may have been a small step for Neil, but that's a long one for me.' He was referring to being shorter than Neil Armstrong and having problems coming off the ladder to the Moon's surface.
    He flew two missions with astronaut Richard F. Gordon Jr. (Gemini 11 and Apollo 12).
    He was the only one to fly a Gemini, Apollo and Skylab mission.
    He was part of the first successful mission to a space station.
    He spent nearly 50 days in space.
    He graduated Princeton University (1953).
    He was inducted into the Aviation Hall of Fame (1980).
    He, along with Cooper on Gemini 5, were the first to spend more than a week in space. That flight also gave the US the lead in man hours in space.
    He and Richard Gordon set an altitude record of 850 miles above Earth in Gemini 11.
    He was the first man to command a Skylab mission.
    After his fourth mission, he held the space endurance record of 1,179 hours and 38 minutes.
    After retiring as an astronaut, he became COO of ATC, which developed cable TV systems.
    He helped Alan Bean dig up lunar rocks to bring back to Earth.
    He assisted Alan Bean in bringing back parts of the Surveyor 3 spacecraft that landed on the Moon. Surveyor 3 proved that Earth bacteria could survive on the Moon, two years later.
