The Resume

    (circa 23-79)
    Born in Como, Italy
    Full name: Gaius Plinius Secundus
Roman general, politician, lawyer, and author
Wrote 'Naturalis Historia,' an encyclopedia and one of the largest works of his time to survive to the present day

Why he might be annoying:

    He was a lawyer.
Of all his works only 'Naturalis Historia' survives.
His autobiographical stories make it difficult to develop a clear timeline of his life.

Why he might not be annoying:

He never married or had children but adopted his widowed sister's son (who grew up to be known as Pliny the Younger) and made him his heir.
He served in the Roman Army and Navy, rising to become a general and admiral.
He also wrote; a history of the wars between Germany and Rome, and a six volume work on rhetoric.
He died during a rescue mission to Pompeii when Mount Vesuvius exploded.
His service as procurator for two to four (the historical record is not clear) Roman provinces was marked with honesty and competence.
