    (May 26, 1883-September 16, 1946)
    Born in Cincinnati, Ohio
Recorded 'Crazy Blues' and 'It's Right Here For You (If You Don't Get It, 'Tain't No Fault Of Mine)' (both 1920)
Appeared in the films 'Jailhouse Blues' (1929), 'Paradise in Harlem' (1939), 'Sunday Sinners' (1940) and 'Murder on Lennox Avenue' (1941)
Billed as 'The Queen of the Blues'

Why she might be annoying:

Her breakthrough recording of 'Crazy Blues' was a fluke, as the song was originally intended for Sophie Tucker, who failed to show for the recording session.
Her 'Queen of the Blues' title was one-upped by Bessie Smith calling herself the 'Empress of the Blues.'
She retired from performing in 1931 only to come back eight years later.

Why she might not be annoying:

She was the first black singer to release a blues record.
'Crazy Blues' sold a million copies in six months, demonstrating the potential of the previously ignored African-American record-buying market.
Because of its historical significance, 'Crazy Blues' was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame (1994) and chosen for preservation in the Library of Congress' National Recording Registry.
