    Composed two piano concertos, four piano sonatas, the orchestral Indian Suite (1897), and the piano suites 'Woodland Sketches' (1896), 'Sea Pieces' (1898>, and 'New England Idylls' (1902)
    First Professor of Music at Columbia University (1896-1904)

    He married one of his piano students, Marian Nevins.
    He suffered from seasonal affective disorder, depression, and insomnia.
    He retired from Columbia after President Nicholas Murray Butler accused him of unprofessional conduct and sloppy teaching.

Why he might not be annoying:

    Franz Liszt encouraged him to switch from performing to composing.
    He was the first American composer to receive international acclaim.
    He was one of the initial seven members of the American Academy of Arts and Letters (1904).
    He was run over by a Hansom cab on Broadway (1904), leaving him unable to care for himself.
    Among the notables who signed a public appeal to raise funds for his care were Grover Cleveland, Andrew Carnegie, and Victor Herbert.
