    (July 22, 1929-February 18, 2008)
Born in New York City, New York
Birth name was Julios Caesar Lopez
Acted in 'Battle Cry,' 'Mister Roberts,' 'Steel Jungle,' 'Cry Tough,' 'Creature from the Black Lagoon,' and 'The Young Guns'
Appeared on episodes of Alfred Hitchcock Presents, The Rifleman, Bonanza, and The Man from U.N.C.L.E.
Best known for his portrayal of Lieutenant Lou Escobar in 'Chinatown' (1974)
    He was a chain smoker.
He guested on a Star Trek episode.
He divorced Claire Kelly after only a single year of marriage (1961).
He was predictably typecast as Native Americans and other ethnic roles.
He reprised his role as Lou Escobar in the critically panned box office bomb (and sequel to 'Chinatown') 'The Two Jakes.'
Despite a decades long career, he is best remembered for being part of James Dean's Warner Bros-backlot clique, and for dating Natalie Wood, (but never made a film with either of them).
He grew up in a tough East-Side Manhattan neighborhood on Lexington Avenue.
He had a recurring role on 'Zorro' as a Mestizo freedom fighter.
He made a strong impression early in his career in 'Mister Roberts,' holding his own against seasoned veterans Henry Fonda and James Cagney.
He became close friends with James Dean after they double-dated with Marisa Pavan and Pier Angeli.
His friendship with Dean led to his serving as an assistant/technical advisor to Nicholas Ray on the set of 'Rebel Without a Cause' (mainly consulted for authenticity about gang warfare and delinquency).
He reportedly teared up when asked about his relationship with Natalie Wood during an interview, answering: 'Meeting her was the best day of my life. I still think of her twice a day.'
He was a Hispanic actor who approached leading man status, but later segued successfully into character roles.
