    As a teenager, he joined the Young Communist League, leaving it after Hitler and Stalin signed a mutual nonagression pact.
    He was married five times!
    Though a successful businessman, in his works and other writings he railed constantly against capitalism.
    Despite his tremendous body of high quality work, a couple of television episodes are the only works of his to be filmed.
    By age twenty, he was editor of Astounding Stories and Super Science Stories.
    His novel 'Gateway' won the Nebula and Hugo awards.
    His family moved around quite a bit when he was growing up and he had to quit high school at age fourteen and go to work to help them.
    He is the only man to win Hugo awards for writing and editing, winning three in each category.
    He received the Nebula Grandmaster award.
    He is considered an authority on the Roman Emperor Tiberius.
    He once said, 'Writers write. Then academics explain what the writer has written and the critics explain how it could have been better.'
