The center part of the area was flooded by heavy rains for a few days (1916).

The Crystal Cathedral went bankrupt for two years until it was sold to the Roman Catholic Diocese of Orange (October 2010-February 2012).

Its population of Vietnamese Americans is the second largest in the country behind San Jose, California.
It hosts the Garden Grove Strawberry Festival every Memorial Day weekend since 1958.
After World War II, its development and population grew rapidly.
The band Sublime has a song named after it.
The Crystal Cathedral holds the broadcasts of the religious TV program 'Hour of Power' and it has one of the world's largest pipe organs.
Sports athletes Darryl Kile, Troy Polamalu and Alan Trammell were born here.
