Voice Actor
    (January 13, 1910-December 4, 1984)
Born in New York City, New York
Voice of Felix the Cat (1960s) and Popeye the Sailor Man (1930s–1980s)
He had an unusually high-pitched voice.
He got his break due to the previous Popeye voice being a difficult personality.
He had to do more than 220 cartoons within a single year (approximately one per 30 hours).
Because his real voice was nothing like Popeye’s, he was able to do the voices of some female characters.
His first wife was the voice of Olive Oyl during the WWII years.
When he was called into war service, Mae Questel – another Olive Oyl voice – temporarily took his signature part.
In addition to starting out there as an apprentice, he was one of Famous Studios’ (Paramount) most successful voice actors.
He was an accomplished animation author and director, even contributing scripts to the Hanna-Barbera version of Popeye.
