    Born in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada
    Elected Democratic Governor of Michigan (2002), re-elected in 2006
    Michigan's Attorney General (1998-2002)
    She competed in beauty pageants as a youngster.
    Her attempt to establish an entertainment career in Hollywood was unsuccessful.
    As Governor, she constantly feuded with Michigan's GOP state legislature over budget issues.
    Republicans accused her of working with embattled Detroit mayor Kwame Kilpatrick to appoint Detroit natives to state positions.
    Midway through her second term as Governor, her approval rating sunk all the way down to 33 percent.
    She was Michigan's first elected female Governor, and first elected female Attorney General.
    She earned her law degree from Harvard Law School.
    As Governor, she focused on funding education, reforming energy policy, attracting new jobs to Michigan and expanding health care.
    She was a member of Barack Obama's transition team of economic advisors.
    She stood in for Sarah Palin as part of Joe Biden's Vice Presidential debate prep (2008).
