Why AMEXOL - American Express Online might be annoying
It was only available to AMEX card holders. Most AMEX cards charge a fee.
They had a waiting list when word circulated about their free internet service.
It did not last too long.
It had ads.
It did not have access numbers outside of the U.S.
It only serviced PCs, no Macs.
It required use of the latest version of Internet Explorer, only.
It was not well publicized and turned out merely to be a test.
It merged into a paid service.
Why AMEXOL - American Express Online might not be annoying
It began offering a free ISP when most other free ISPs were disappearing.
It was free and allowed use of newsgroups.
The ads were small and infrequent.
The small ad screen can be dragged and dropped anywhere on the browser.
The ads only popped up when the keyboard/mouse were idle for awhile.
It was a small program to download, under 3 meg.
It allowed POP3 Email.
It rarely had busy signals.
Despite being a free service, it offered 24/7 free tech support.
