The Resume

    (1940-October 1, 2018)
    Born in Olton, Texas
    Later resided in Lubbock, Texas
Namesake for the hit Buddy Holly song, 'Peggy Sue' (1957)
Dated and later married Crickets drummer Jerry Allison (later divorced)
Author of the memoir 'Whatever Happened to Peggy Sue' (2008)

Why she might be annoying:

Widespread misconception is that she and Holly dated at some point, prompting him to write a song for her.
In actuality, the song was originally to be named after Holly's niece - Cindy Lou.
However, her boyfriend and drummer Jerry Allison, talked Holly into changing the name of the song to 'Peggy Sue' (they had recently broken up and he hoped the change would persuade her to come back to him).
She was threatened with legal action by Holly's widow, Maria Elena Holly, who claimed that 'Whatever Happened to Peggy Sue?' contained fictionalized events about her late husband (2008)
Specifically, Gerron claimed that Buddy was her true love, and that - had he lived - they'd have divorced their spouses and married.
She also claimed that Holly even flirted with her on his honeymoon, although his widow asserted she wasn't even present at the time.
She told the BBC that she frequently was met with surprised looks on being introduced, presumably because they were still expecting to meet a teenage girl 'in a polka-dot prom dress' ('I'm introduced, and there's a pause, and they say, Oh, are you...? and I say Yes, I'm Peggy Sue')

Why she might not be annoying:

Buddy Holly had been planning a sequel song before his death, 'Peggy Sue Got Married.'
The tape was discovered after his death and was 'enhanced' for commercial release (and would be featured on the soundtrack for the Kathleen Turner movie of the same name).
'Peggy Sue' was named in NPR's 100 Most Important American Musical Works of the 20th Century (1999).
She claimed to have derived the material for the memoir from nearly 150 diary entries she made during the time she knew Holly.
When she first met Holly, he was rushing to a high school gig in Sacramento, California, and allegedly pushed past her, nearly knocking her down the steps.
She recalled: 'He ran over to me, guitar in one hand, amp in the other, and said, 'I don't have time to pick you up, but you sure are pretty', before he ran off.'
She later went into business with her second husband, helping to run a small plumbing business in southern California.
She continued to be involved in Buddy Holly fan/memorabilia events, such as being guest of honor at the opening of the Buddy Holly musical in Melbourne, Australia.
