He supported rebels in Sierra Leone that committed numerous atrocities (such as chopping off limbs) against civilians suspected of supporting the government there.
He has promised many times to leave the country but has not followed up on those promises.
His soldiers refer to him as 'Pappy.'
Nearly 200,000 people were killed during Liberia's civil war, in which he took part.
Many of his troops are children on drugs.
He engages in diamond trafficking.
He was sentenced to 50 years in prison by an international war crimes court (May 30, 2012).

He fights rebels seeking to destabilize his country.
He has a degree in economics.
