Why he might be annoying:

Sea Level was a pun on his name. ('C. Leavell,' geddit?)
He was considering quitting music when his wife told him Bill Graham had just called and said that the Rolling Stones were interested in hiring him to play keyboards during their upcoming European tour (1982).
He has played with the Stones a lot longer than Brian Jones or Mick Taylor did without ever being considered a member of the band.

Why he might not be annoying:

He became the unofficial musical director for the Stones, including collaborating with Mick Jagger in determining the set list for each show.
He frequently serves as a peacemaker between Mick and Keith.
He and his wife Rose Lane White are advocates for sustainable forestry and were named National Outstanding Tree Farmers of the Year (1999).
He received a Lifetime Achievement Grammy (as a member of the Allman Brothers Band) and was named an Honorary Forest Ranger by the United States Forest Service in the same month (February 2012); he said he held both honors equally.
