Why they might be annoying:

The group found their name from a graffiti inscription in a Spandau, Berlin prison.
Their look (long tux jackets and ties) and sound (soft and romantic) did not fit the conventional description of a rock band.
Guitarist Gary Kemp is divorced from actress Sadie Frost.
Their song 'True' contains the worst lyric ever: 'Why do I find it hard to write the next line.'

Rap group PM Dawn sampled off Spandau Ballet's 1983 'True' single (1992).
They were part of the British music explosion in the early 80's.
They were instrumental in the New Romantic phenomenon in the British music scene, along with Duran Duran and Culture Club.
Martin Kemp and Gary Kemp formed acting careers after the band split up; Gary appeared in 'The Bodyguard.'
