    (July 10, 1896-November 3, 1981)
    Born in Montreal, Quebec, Canada
Full name is Marie Thérèse Forget Casgrain
Advocated for Quebec women’s right to vote in provincial elections
    Founded Provincial Franchise Committee (1921)
Leader of the League for Women's Rights (1928-1942)
    Joined Co-operative Commonwealth Federation (1946)
Canada’s first female political party leader (1951)
Appointed to Canadian Senate by Pierre Trudeau (1970)
    Her maiden name is ‘Forget.'
    She was a humanist.
Her decision to join the Co-operative Commonwealth Federation (CCF), a socialist organization from west Canada, starkly contrasted from her upper-class upbringing in Quebec.
The CCF was largely at odds with the Catholic Church, who suspected the party for being a communist movement.
Her term as senator was short lived (nine months).
Other than women’s rights, she campaigned for child protection laws, prison reform, reforms in the law, world peace, and an end to nukes.
She helped rural French women in Quebec to raise their awareness of their lack of rights through her radio program ‘Femina.'
When her husband got sick with pleurisy while running in a second election campaign, she helped him be his substitute, and they won (1921).
She wanted the media to focus more on important economic topics rather than trivial scandals.
She and the Famous Five are featured on the new Canadian $50 bill.
