Premise: A widow and her uncle raise three attractive daughters while running an off the beaten track hotel
Based on a hotel in Eldon Missouri
The show was titled 'Dern Tootin',' 'Ozark Widow' and 'Whistle Stop' before deciding on 'Petticoat Junction.'
Creator Paul Henning cast his own daughter in the role of Betty Jo.
The character of Bobbie Jo was played by two different women and Billie Jo was played by three.
Besides changing the actresses who played the daughters, the show was notorious for having many different actors play Dr. Stuart and Bert the barber.
Decades before the Brady Bunch kids formed a pop group, Petticoat Junction's Linda Kaye Henning, Jeanine Riley and Pat Woodell formed the pop group The Ladybugs.
The show added Mike Minor as Steve Elliot the male interest for Billie Jo (Meredith MacRae), however Linda Kaye Henning sparked up a real life romance with Mike Minor. So the show echoed real life, Steve and Betty Jo (Linda) sparked a romance with the blessing of Billie Jo.
    Just about every year they cut their season by two episodes: 1963 (38 episodes) 1964 (36 episodes) 1965 (34 episodes) 1966 (32 episodes) 1967 (30 episodes) 1968 (26 episodes) 1969 (26 episodes).
The name of the hotel was Shady Rest, which sounds more like a sanitarium or retirement home than a hotel.
All the actresses who played the daughters, were much older than the high school students they portrayed.
After Bea Benaderet died of cancer the show's ratings dropped significantly.
They avoided mentioning Bea Benaderet's death. just saying her character, Kate was out of town.
In an effort to boost ratings they brought in 'Lassie' and 'Lost in Space' star June Lockhart but the show didn't gain back its ratings.
They pioneered T&A TV, after all the town was Hooterville.
The series began each episodes with the girls skinny dipping in the water tower.
The series featured three hot daughters, a blonde, brunette and red head.
Dennis Hopper starred in an early episode as a hippie rebel from Greenwich Village, New York.
The Ladybugs appeared on the Ed Sullivan show.
The series was a spin off of 'The Beverly Hillbillies' and eventually spun-off 'Green Acres.'
Frank Cady (Sam Drucker) was a regular on 'The Beverly Hillbillies,' 'Green Acres' and this show.
Mike Minor and Linda Kaye Henning married both on the show and a year later for real. Although they divorced after five years, they remained friends.
Despite being producer/creator Paul Henning's daughter, Linda got the least salary and the least show credit.
