The Resume
(February 28, 1948- )
Raised in Nairobi, Kenya
Directed 'Stormy Monday (1988),' 'Liebestraum (1991),' 'The Browning Version (1994),' 'Leaving Las Vegas (1995),' 'The Loss of Sexual Innocence (1999),' 'Timecode (2000),' 'Hotel (2001)' and 'Cold Creek Manor (2003)'
Why he might be annoying
He sometimes uses bizarre, off-the-wall directorial techniques.
For instance, 'Timecode' features a quadruple split-screen, with four different stories happening simultaneously.
Many of his films can be described as experimental, but not enjoyable.
Critics called his more conventional film 'Cold Creek Manor' 'unspeakably boring' and 'about as thrilling as cleaning your garage.'
He looks like something out of 'Harry Potter.'
Why he might not be annoying
He is a talented musician, playing piano, trumpet, and classical guitar.
He composed the scores for some of his films.
He has taught piano lessons in his spare time.
He also plays in an R&B band.
When asked what he most looks for in actors, he said: 'A degree of health - it's always tricky when they die halfway through a shoot.'
His film 'Leaving Las Vegas' was a critical and commercial success.
'Timecode' was the first film of its kind, which is impressive (even if the movie itself is, well, unspeakably boring).
