The Resume

    (1967- )
    Formed in Memphis, Tennessee
    1967 line-up:
Alex Chilton - guitar, lead vocals
Gary Talley - lead guitar, vocals
    Bill Cunningham - bass, vocals
    Danny Smythe - drums, vocals
    John Evans - keyboards, vocals
Recorded 'The Letter,' 'Cry Like a Baby,' 'Neon Rainbow,' 'Choo Choo Train,' 'Soul Deep,' 'I Met Her in Church' and 'Sweet Cream Ladies, Forward March'

Why they might be annoying:

Originally called The Devilles, they changed their name because an earlier group used the same moniker.
Their record company signed them as a Steve Winwood soundalike blue-eyed soul band.
Their starting line-up lasted just one year and by the time they broke up in 1970 three original members quit.
They re-formed 26 years later to jump on the oldies circuit bandwagon.

Why they might not be annoying:

'The Letter' sold over 4 million copies, spent four weeks at #1 and was named 'single of the year' by Billboard Magazine in 1967.
Management sometimes used session musicians for recording in place of band members, alienating the group.
As teens they received minimal pay while their record company reaped millions from their hard work.
Cuinningham, Smythe and Evans quit the band to finish their education.
Chilton and Talley became aware of management's deception and disbanded rather than make more money they'd never see.
