Died when he was hit by a truck while changing a tire on the Connecticut Turnpike

Why he might be annoying:

He was a tree surgeon before going into music.
One critic described his voice as ‘not beautiful in any classical sense.’
He arranged the singers for the ill-fated – and never released – ‘Charlie Parker and Voices’ sessions (1953).
An investigation concluded that the driver of the truck was not at fault as Lambert had been standing in the roadway when he was hit.

Why he might not be annoying:

He served in the US Army during World War II.
Along with Ella Fitzgerald, he was a pioneer of scat singing.
He teamed up with Hendricks after arranging a vocalese version of Jimmy Guiffre’s ‘Four Brothers’ in fifteen minutes.
Lambert, Hendricks, and Ross were named Best Vocal Group in the ‘Down Beat’ readers’ poll five straight years (1959-63).
