Soccer Player
    (March 4, 1951- )
Born in Glasgow, Scotland, United Kingdom
Played for Celtic (1969-77) and Liverpool (1977-90)
Member of the Scottish national team (1971-86)
Managed Liverpool (1985-91,2011-12), Blackburn Rovers (1991-95), Newcastle United (1997-98) and Celtic (2000)
PFA Player of the Year (1983)
Four-time Manager of the Year (1986,1988,1990,1995)
Nicknamed 'King Kenny' by Liverpool fans
When a scout from Celtic came to his home, he rushed upstairs to remove posters of the Rangers (Celtic's biggest rival) from his bedroom walls.
Despite great play domestically, he never reached the same level during the World Cup.
His return to managing Liverpool lasted only a year due to a disappointing 8th place finish in the Premier League.
He said about critics of his managerial style, 'I think people should take an intelligence check.'
He was so skilled at handling the ball that Arsenal's David O'Leary said robbing him of possession was 'impossible.'
During his first season as manager (1985-86), he led Liverpool to its first double, winning the Premier League Championship and FA Cup, and was named manager of the year.
After the Hillsborough disaster, during which 96 Liverpool fans died and over 700 were injured in a crush against the fences (April 15, 1989), he told the players 'What is called for is dignity. We need to set an example,' then organized hospital visits, attended up to four funerals a day, and took calls from families of victims in the middle of the night and listened to them for hours.
He and his wife founded the charity The Marina Dalglish Appeal to raise funds for cancer research (2004).
He topped a fan poll as the player who made the biggest impact at Liverpool (2006).
