    Born in Jacksonville, Florida
    Birth name was Gary Anderson
    Recorded the singles 'New Orleans' (1960), 'Quarter to Three' (1961), 'School Is Out' (1961), 'Seven Day Weekend' (1962), 'This Little Girl' (1981) and 'Out of Work' (1982)
    He was given the name U.S. Bonds by his producer who hoped deejays would play his records by confusing them with public service announcements.
    He disliked many of his hits.
    In 'Copy Cat,' he accused Chubby Checker of 'trying to copy my groove,' but he jumped on Checker's twist bandwagon with 'Dear Lady Twist' (1961) and 'Twist Twist Senora' (1962).
    'Quarter to Three' was a #1 hit and was chosen by the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as one of the 500 Songs That Shaped Rock and Roll.
    He toured Europe with the Beatles as his opening act (1963).
    Although considered a rhythm and blues performer, he was nominated by the Country Music Association as songwriter of the year.
    Bruce Springsteen is a fan and produced his early 80s comeback hits.
