Why he might be annoying:

    He worked for a cigarette company.
    He smoked upon joining this company.
    He drank heavily.
    He is twice divorced.
    His first wife was suffering from multiple sclerosis when they divorced.
    He tends to emotionally withdraw from others when he faces problems.
    He is a perfectionist.

Why he might not be annoying:

    He is fluent in Japanese.
    He managed to get around a confidentiality agreement upon his termination that he would not divulge the tobacco industry’s knowledge about cigarettes causing cancer.
    The stress upon divulging the tobacco industry’s secrets may have led to his second divorce.
    He was named teacher of the year.
    He got a Ph.D. in biochemistry from SUNY Buffalo.
    Despite being threatened with lawsuits from his former employers, he gave an interview on ’60 Minutes.’
    He had to deal with the fact that his interview was broadcast twice, the first time with his face and voice hidden.
    His eldest daughter from his second marriage was diagnosed with spina bifida.
    He reconciled with his daughters from both marriages.
    Although his first wife was sick during their divorce, the divorce was mutual.
    His ordeal with exposing the tobacco industry inspired the Russel Crowe/Al Pacino movie ‘The Insider.’
    He searched the world for specialists to help treat his first wife’s MS.
