    The place earned the the nickname 'Cowtown' because it was a busy outpost for trading and herding cattle.
    It has extremely hot and humid summers.
    The boundaries of the city lie within four different counties!
    During the late nineteenth century, shootings, knifings, muggings and brawls committed by thugs plagued the settlement.
    In 2000, a tornado struck the downtown area of the city causing serious damage to many buildings.
    It is dwarfed in size by its immediate neighboring city, Dallas.

    The downtown area is known for its Art Deco style architecture.
    It is home to the National Cowgirl Museum and Hall of Fame.

    A 2006 survey ranked it as the ninth safest U.S. city among those with a population over 500,000.
