    Won two 1952 Olympic gold medals in Alpine skiing
    She could have won all three events at the 1952 Oslo Olympics but she fell in the downhill and was out.
    She failed to win a medal at the 1956 Winter Olympics in Cortina d'Ampezzo, Italy.
    She was married at 19.
    She had three children between the 1952 and 1956 Olympics.
    She was the first alpine skier to win two events in a single Olympics.
    Her Olympic feat in 1952 got her a telegram from President Truman, calling it 'a great honor for the United States.'
    She fell during the 1952 Olympic slalom, but got back up, raced on, and won the gold medal.
    She won the very first Olympic Giant Slalom gold medal.
    She competed at the 1948 Winter Olympics in St. Moritz, Switzerland in 1948 at the age of 15.
    She brought in the torch on skis during the opening ceremonies of the 1960 Olympics in Squaw Valley, California.
