Three members--Czukay, Schmidt, and Liebezeit--were in their thirties when they formed the band.
Malcolm Mooney had a nervous breakdown and left after their first record.
They were smokers (pot and cigarettes).
Damo Suzuki left the band to become a Jehovah's Witness.
Schmidt and Czukay were students of the composer Karlheinz Stockhausen.
They hired Suzuki when they found him singing on the streets.
They included elements of rock, avante-garde, R&B, jazz, and classical.
They experimented with different recording and tape editing techniques.
The English group The Fall recorded a song called 'I am Damo Suzuki.'
They are admired by punks, post-punks, and electronica artists.
They have continued to work together after the group's breakup.
Michael Karoli died of cancer in 2001.
