    He wrote for the New Yorker.
    He smoked.
    He wrote about medicine despite having no medical training.
    Depressed and suffering from emphysema, he committed suicide.
    He kept the same job and was married to the same woman for fifty years.
    His 'The Medical Detectives' series has been cited as a source for the TV series'House M.D.' and has certainly influenced and <15514>'C.S.I.'
    He was known to be likable and friendly.
