Head coach of the Milwaukee Bucks (1968-77) and the Chicago Bulls (1978-79)

He retired after the 1964-65 season, only to return to active play a year later.
He suffered a career threatening injury when he tore his Achilles tendon (1967).
His Bucks teams were mired in mediocrity in the years following Kareem Abdul-Jabbar's departure from the team.
His tenure with the Bucks ended aprubtly after a 3-15 start (1977).
He was fired by the Bulls after 56 games as the team's head coach (1979).
