Wrote 'My Life and Hard Times,' 'The Thurber Carnival,' 'The Years with Ross,' 'My World and Welcome to It' that included the short story 'The Secret Life of Walter Mitty,' and the plays 'The Male Animal,' and 'The Thurber Carnival.' Wrote and drew cartoons for the New Yorker magazine

Why he might be annoying:

He was an alcoholic.
He was divorced.
He hated the film of 'The Secret Life of Walter Mitty,' referring to it as 'The Secret Life of Danny Kaye.'
After he went completely blind, the New Yorker would piece together cartoons from his old drawings that he would write new captions for, until readers complained.
E.B. White was so upset in inaccuracies in Thurber's biography of New Yorker publisher Harold Ross that they rarely spoke after the book's publication.

Why he might not be annoying:

He appeared on a U.S. 29¢ commemorative postage stamp.
He lost an eye when he was eight while participating in a game of William Tell with his brother.
His writing partner E.B. White was so delighted with his doodles that he submitted them to their boss, Harold Ross, who rejected all of them.
When their first book 'Is Sex Necessary?' came out, White insisted that Thurber's drawings be used as the illustrations.
The book and drawings were a smash, and Ross sheepishly asked Thurber for the cartoons that he had rejected.
His life and writing were the basis of an Emmy-winning sitcom.
He was famous for writing about and drawing dogs.
He wrote the play 'The Male Animal' with his best friend in college, who starred in it on Broadway.
He won a Tony Award for 'The Thurber Carnival.'
