    Because he was ineligible to serve during WW II, he starred in many movies during that time as the war hero.
    He turned down the starring role of Elliot Ness on 'The Untouchables.'
    He married his friend's ex-wife the day his friend, Keenan Wynn, and ex-wife, Eve, divorce.
    There was talk that he really didn't like the ladies and that his marriage to his Eve was a sham arranged with Keenan Wynn.
    He and Eve divorced.
    He was typecast as the wholesome boy-next-door.
    His trademark is wearing red socks.
