    Surrealist painter who incorporated social and political elements into his paintings
    Painted 'Crucifixion' (1938), 'Invasion of the Night' (1941), 'Listen to Living' (1941), 'The Earth is a Man' (1942), 'The Vertigo of Eros' (1944), 'Being With (Etre Avec)' (1946), 'Our Earth is a Target' (1958), 'Elle Loge La Folie' (1970), 'The First Goal of the Chilean People' (1971), and 'La Source du Calme' (2002)
    Awarded Marzotto Prize for 'La Question Djamilla' (1962)
    Died in Civitavecchia, Italy

Why he might be annoying:

    His birth year is sometimes cited as 1912.
    He had a comfortable childhood at a time when Chile was experiencing an economic crisis.
    He had an affair with Arshile Gorky's wife Agnes 'Mougouch' Magruder as part of Gorky's series of unfortunate events.
    As a result, he was expelled from the Surrealist movement established by André Breton.
    When the Surrealists invited him back into their group, he ditched the offer. (1959)

    Two of his children died prematurely.
    Marcel Duchamp called him 'the most profound painter of his generation'.
    He contributed to the rise of Abstract Expressionism through his use of abstract forms in his artwork exploration to depict the subconscious mind.
    'The First Goal of the Chilean People' was covered with 16 coats of paint by the Pinochet regime because of his support of Salvador Allende.
    In addition to painting on subjects regarding his political activism, he also painted on the subjects of literary works.
