    Author of poetry collections ‘Liliana’ (1959), Reverse Time’ (1967), ‘Forbidden Sea’ (1976), ‘Voice’ (1985), ‘Night Diary’ (1992) and ‘Scars’ (2002)
    Author of autobiographical novel ‘Journey to Oneself’ (1969)
    Became post-communist Bulgaria's first vice president (1992-1993)

    She was initially popular with and supported Bulgaria’s communist regime.
    Her poetry often features mutilated tongues.
    She wrote a curse against politicians who backed the restoration of the Bulgarian monarchy, demanding that their right arms be cut off.
    She resigned from her position as vice president after one year.
