U.S. Attorney General

The Resume

    (May 21, 1959- )
    Born in Greensboro, North Carolina
Birth name is Loretta Elizabeth Lynch
Also goes by her married name, Loretta Lynch Hargrove
Served as a member of the board for the Federal Reserve Bank of New York (2003-2005)
Served as United States Attorney for the Eastern District of New York (1999-2001, 2010-15)
Oversaw federal prosecutions in Brooklyn, Queens, Staten Island, and Long Island
Nominated by President Barack Obama to succeed Eric Holder as Attorney General (November 8, 2014)
Confirmed by the US Senate Judiciary Committee by a 12–8 vote, with support from all nine Democratic members and three Republicans (February 26, 2015)
Confirmed by the Senate with a 56-43 vote and sworn in as the 83rd US Attorney General (April 23-27, 2015)

Why she might be annoying:

    Her last name...
Her full name also led many to initially think that Loretta Lynn had been nominated to be Attorney General.
She jumped on the bandwagon claiming that Voter ID laws are actually bids to disenfranchise minority voters.
Her confirmation process was one of the longest in the history of the United States, taking 166 days after she was first nominated for the US Attorney General.
The historic nature of her appointment obscures the fact that, at most, she could only maintain the position for a period of 19 months.
She has been accused of helping Citigroup to evade prosecution over their role in the 2008 Mortgage Crisis.
She has been accused of aiding an Administration cover-up of bribery/cronyism in the DHS, enabling HSBC to evade charges of laundering billions traced to Mexican drug cartels.
She was at the center of the heated debate surrounding the death by chokehold of Eric Garner at the hands of an NYC police officer, culminating in mass rioting and the assassination of two other NYC police officers (July-December, 2014).
She turned heads when she declared, in her nomination hearing, that Illegal Immigrants have 'the right and the obligation to work ... shared by everyone in this country, regardless of how they came here' (January 28, 2015).
Sen. Dick Durbin rubbed salt in the wound by injecting racial language into the debate, calling the confirmation delay not only 'unjust' but an example of the GOP forcing a black woman to 'sit in the back of the bus' again (March 18, 2015).

Why she might not be annoying:

She was a child in the last days of the South's Jim Crow era.
She is a double Harvard graduate, with degrees in both English and Law .
She has handled cases, as East New York Attorney General, dealing with cybercrime, organized crime, and terrorism.
Her prosecution of mobster Vincent Asaro inspired Martin Scorsese's 'Goodfellas' blockbuster.
She successfully prosecuted New York State Senate Majority Leader Pedro Espada, Jr. on embezzlement charges, with his eventually getting sentenced to 5 years in prison.
She oversaw the prosecution of New York City police officers in the Abner Louima case, at that time the highest-profile police brutality prosecution (1999).
She was defended by Rudy Giuliani.
She became the first black woman Attorney General of the United States.
She also became only the second woman to hold the office of U.S. Attorney General, after Janet Reno.
She is the second black woman to run into problems with a GOP controlled congress during her nomination period, the first being UN Ambassador Susan Rice who was denied the Secretary of State position as a result.
Unlike Rice, there didn't seem to be any compelling reason to withhold her nomination proceedings, especially considering the GOP's intense dislike of Eric Holder.
